HM Plant Honda has announced that Steve Brogan will be replacing injured Glen Richards at the Mallory Park round of the ViSK British Superbike Championship in association with Pirelli next weekend (17/18/19 July).
Brogan has already been a title-winner for Honda when he was crowned Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Champion last season at the penultimate round. Now the defending champion is lying second in that class, but with no race at Mallory Park he is eager to prove he has what it takes in the Superbike class.
Brogan told the BSB website: "This is the opportunity I have been waiting for a while. I have shown what I can do on the Superstock bike and now I want to prove myself on a Superbike. It is unfortunate for Glen, but I am going to Mallory Park knowing that I am on one of the best bikes in the paddock and I know the HM Plant Honda team. I have my own expectations for Mallory Park and I know I want to be in the top five the whole weekend; I think that is a realistic target despite not having ridden the bike before. I will be trying my hardest for a good result and anything better will be a bonus." The team's Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship rider Steve Plater will then race the Superbike at Brands Hatch and Cadwell Park. Plater added: "I'm pleased to be able to stand in for Glen and hopefully it will only need to be for those few rounds as it would be good to see him back on his bike before the end of the season. It'll make for busy Brands Hatch and Cadwell Park weekends for me, riding in both the Supersport and Superbike classes, but I've done it once before this year. I know what to expect and how best to get my head in gear for switching between the two, as they require completely different riding styles and focus. Cadwell is also my 'home' circuit so I'm looking forward to hopefully putting in some good results in both classes to make it a good show for both the team and the crowds." The next round of the championship takes place at Mallory Park on 17/18/19 July. For more information visit www.mallorypark.co.uk
