Danny's Diary
I found my golf game again in the final round at the European Masters in Switzerland.
I'd had a fairly ordinary week going into round four to the extent that a 78 on Saturday meant I was first out at 7.45am on the last day.
It can be difficult to get motivated when you are so far down the field but I was really pleased with how I went about things. I decided to have a real go and see how far up the leaderboard I could climb.
There were no thoughts about safety in my mind. I took the driver out everywhere and was rewarded by shooting seven under for my first ten holes. Ok I had a couple of silly bogeys after that but I finished with a 64 and rocketed up the field to finish just outside the top 40 which was no mean achievement considering I started the day in 71st place.
To be honest I didn't feel I played greatly different to the previous day, certainly not 14 shots better but sometimes it goes for you and sometimes it doesn't and Sunday was one of those days.
Now I feel ready to challenge at the KLM tournament in Holland this week and have also decided to play Austria the week after which originally I was going to miss.
I had charted the season to give myself rest at the right times but I just feel I want to be out there playing competitive golf at the moment. I'm one of those players who puts in plenty of hard work in practice to fine tune my game but you can fiddle around too much and, as I showed in Switzerland, when I play with freedom I'm capable of shooting low.
Here's hoping I can carry that final-day form through to the end of the season
